Flooring & painting
in Kirkland.
The right finish for one room may not suit the next. Entries, living spaces and bedrooms can have different wear and access needs. Plan the connections between them first, then choose flooring and paint with the room's actual light, furniture and everyday use in mind.

Questions before you begin
Do I need a permit for flooring or painting in Kirkland?
Kirkland lists painting, carpeting, tiling and similar finish work as exempt when existing accessibility features remain unchanged, subject to site restrictions. Structural repairs are a separate scope; check those with the city. Kirkland permit guidance
Is there hardwood under our carpet?
There might be, but it should not be assumed from the neighborhood or the home's age. A safe, limited inspection can help identify the layers. Discovering wood is only the first step: patches, damage and previous sanding can affect whether keeping it makes sense.
Can you work room by room instead of the whole house?
Phasing needs a project-specific plan; it is not an automatic yes. Continuous flooring, doorways, furniture moves and drying or curing requirements can make separate stages harder. Confirm whether this option is available and how it would affect access and the overall scope before relying on it.
What should I prepare before we talk?
List the rooms involved and mark any areas that must stay in use. Photos of the floor, trim and transitions are helpful, as are known product names. For a condo, obtain written flooring and alteration requirements from the association before selecting materials or underlayment.
